David Urquhart Letter and Book, 1880, 1933

Lieutenant Colonel David Urquhart from Louisiana was the chief aide-de-campe of General Braxton Bragg in the Civil War. Urquhart was with General Thomas Jordan, General G. T. Beauregard's chief of staff, during the Battle of Shiloh, 6-7 April 1862, in southwestern Tennessee. The collection is a letter, dated 25 August 1880, from Urquhart to Jordan describing the events of the Battle of Shiloh. At the end of the letter, there is a penciled note from General G. T. Beauregard indicating his agreement with Urquhart's presentation of the events of the battle. The letter was enclosed in a copy of Hamilton Basso's biography (1933), inscribed by Basso to Lanier Branson, 23 July 1933. Beauregard: The Great Creole
